About Laura

With a growing reputation as an insightful educator and a vocally masterful performer, Laura bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to each student’s experience at Ingram Studios.

Laura’s music education

An expert educator, vocalist and songwriter, Laura writes, records and performs with some of Australia’s most skilled musicians.

Like all great soul singers before her, Ingram developed her chops singing in the local gospel choir and fronting the school big band, as well as receiving private voice coaching from age 10. At 16 she received a two year scholarship to study jazz at the Australian National University’s (ANU) School of Music, under the tutorage of Australian jazz legend Vince Jones.

She continued to study music performance, art history, and drama during her Bachelor of Arts at the ANU, while also performing and recording.

Laura is trained in Estill Voice and has received over 6 years of voice coaching and teacher training from the remarkable Rachael Thoms, Head of Voice at ANU School of Music (Jazz Department).

In 2014 she won first place at the ANU Chamber Music Prize for her improvised composition and the next year opened Laura Ingram Voice Studios in Canberra.

Performance experience

A prolific artist with 10 years of performance experience, Ingram’s sassy performances and powerful originals have inspired renowned artists such as Clare Bowditch and Caiti Baker to tap her on the shoulder when looking for national supports.

She is currently working on releasing her debut EP later this year with producer Bob Knob of Melbourne label HopeStreet Recordings.

Teaching experience

Laura has taught private vocal and piano lessons at a number of music schools including St Bernard’s Primary, Girls Rock! Melbourne, World of Music, Canberra Music Tuition and Music World. In 2017 she was the Voice Workshop Co-ordinator for Girls Rock! Canberra, an initiative that teaches young girls to learn an instrument, write a song, form a band and perform live in one week.

Laura opened the doors to her private teaching studio in Canberra in 2015, and has continued Ingram Studios in Melbourne in 2018, providing lessons to students all over Australia via live streaming as well as in person.

With a voice as strikingly powerful as it is tender, and a teaching style that is confident and compassionate, Laura is a mentor you want in your corner. She understands the difficulties faced by budding performers and has experienced first hand how correct voice technique can not only improve one’s sound quality, range and vocal efficiency, but it can have a huge impact on a performers self-esteem and performance anxiety issues.

Through her work with over 100 voice students, Laura knows that through tailored coaching, you can change more than just your voice.
